For those of you who had the experience to play these RPG games, there is certainly a very memorable and special memories remains. While the graphics quality of RPG games in PSX can't be compared to today's games, the storyline of those RPG games are truly extraordinary and even better compared to the latest modern games. Love, hatred, tragedy, comedy; everything were presented well within the games, and I have to admit that shed tears a lot when playing these games. This great experience of playing this game is always remembered in our memory along with the variety of great songs and soundtrack of those wonderful PSX role playing games. So, what are the 10 best RPG games for PSX? Here's the list:

10. Legend of ManaThis game is not very popular, but for those who had the chance to play it, Legend of Mana is sure provides them with the best experience of playing an RPG game. This game has "non linear" storyline, where you can build your own world and choose the path where the story should be continued, which character should be helped, and there are many more decisions that are very important that you should make, and those decisions will influence the game. This game also has great mini games, such as making your own weapons and magic, capturing and breeding monsters to be pet and your adventure buddy, growing crops and fruits in magical garden, and many more. All of these fun element are mixed with beautiful two dimensional graphics and amazing music. The storyline of this game is also very deep and bears good messages, where the greed and wickedness of man resulted heavy damage in "Mana Tree" and triggered the birth of dangerous monsters in the world.

Some of the most memorable characters in this game are Niccolo, a fat mercenary rabbit; Bud and Lisa, a pair of witches sibling who later decide to stay in your home; Elazul, a handsome and mysterious knights; Daena, a loyal, trustworthy cat lady, and many more great characters.

9. Harvest Moon : Back to NatureThis game is actually more appropriate to be classified as a simulation game, but because there is still an element of "Role Playing", I decided to include Harvest Moon in this list. In Harvest Moon, you play as a young man who inherits a plot of agricultural land from your grandfather. You are required to cultivate the land within three years, by growing various crops, raise cattle, chickens, goats, as well as establish good relationship with the villagers. If you manage to do everything well, then you will be allowed to have the farm.

Harvest Moon is a very different game and it is very addictive. Most of the games usually require us to kill the evil enemies, but Harvest Moon taught us to love nature and do good things to help others. The most exciting part of this game is when you can marry a village girl of your choice (Popuri, May, Karen, Ann, or Ellie) and you can eventually have children. In addition, there are many festivals and mini games like dancing festival, cooking competitions, chicken sumo competitions, festivals to choose the best cows and sheep. Indeed, it's a very exciting game to play.

8. Digimon World 1 (Digital Monster)There are three series of type Digimon game that was released for PSX (Digimon World, Digimon 2, and Digimon 3), but among those three games, Digimon World is simply the best. In this game, you are given a monster based on a personality tests. This young monster can turn into stronger monster after going through exercises and battles. The monster's transformation also depends on the way you take care of it. If the monster experiences a lot of disappointment and sadness, then it could turn into a dark, devilish monster. If the monster is taken care perfectly, then it could be a very powerful figure.

In Digimon game, you are given a task to recruit 108 wild Digimon who scattered in different parts of the world to join your city. Those Digimons who join this city later will open new facilities in the city, such as hardware stores, restaurants, duel arena, and many more. If all 108 Digimon has been collected, then you need to fight the last boss named Machinedramon.

In Valkyrie Profile, your play as "Lenneth", a warrior of Odin who collects the souls of the brave soldiers who died in the battlefield. You also have duty to train those souls, make them be stronger, and equip them with the best armor before sending it to Valhalla (Odin's palace).

The coolest factor of Valkyrie Profile is the very satisfying battle system. In this game, you can make hundreds of lethal combos, which ended with a cool killing move animation. This game also has a complex storyline and wonderful dialogue that will make you simply fall in love.

Located in the western world is full of monsters and bandits, Wild Arms presents its story in the form of cool anime style cut scenes. Every character in this game have very unique personality and every character are very different from each other in terms of skills, equipment, and combat preferences. The battle system in Wild Arms is also very cool and addicting.

5. XenogearsIf you are looking for the coolest RPG game for PSX, Xenogears is the best answer. This game can be regarded as a masterpiece of Squaresoft, and perhaps can only be equaled by Final Fantasy series. Xenogears has an extraordinarily storyline, which is very complex and require hundreds of hours to complete. The world in Xenogears feels gloomy, dark, and cruel; but behind all of those, there is a memorable adventure that you would remember it for a long time.

What is the coolest thing from Xenogears? The answer is: Robot! Yeah, in this game you can use and control a numerous robots to help you in your adventure. These robots are very tough, and has a variety of moves that can be combined to create stronger power.

4. Thousand ArmsThis game is also considered to be a rare game. It is very fortunate for those of you who had the chance to play Thousand Arms because this game presents a lot of cool features of an RPG. Your play as Meis, a young hero who thirst for adventure. In this game, you do not only have to defeat the evil enemies, but also to establish good relations with the female characters and dating them. On many occasions of the game, you will be brought into a cut scene where you have to talk to the female characters and make some decisions. The right decisions will bring a positive reaction, and conversely you can also fail miserably during the date. Positive reaction will give you a variety of powerful items that are very useful in combat and sometimes even generate a new storyline.

The best thing of Thousand Arms is the design of ever characters, which resembles characters from Japanesa anime. The great storyline also certainly enhances the immersion in the world of Thousand Arms. Another great thing from this game is the soundtrack, titled "Depend on You" sung by Ayumi Hamasaki, one of Japan's most popular singers at the time.

3. Chrono CrossChrono Cross was released in the end of PSX's glorious moment. This game is one of the few PSX games that received very high rating, above 9 (out of a maximum of 10) from Gamespot. Indeed, in terms of the quality of a game, Chrono Cross is superb. There are dozens of characters with different looks, strengths, and abilities. The storyline in this game is also very touching, and there are two different endings that you can get, depending on how you play this game. In addition, the "Radical Dreamers" which became the main soundtrack of Chrono Cross was also named as one of the best video game soundtracks of all time.

Chrono Cross is about an adventure of Serge, a boy that can move from one dimension to another. Serge's adventure starts from a very simple mission: finding a gift for his girlfriend, then turn out to be a very complex mission to save the world. He has to fight with the six different dragons , recruits dozens of characters to help him, and finally defeat the "Time Devourer" to end the game.

2. Suikoden SeriesSuikoden series is an RPG game with a very simple graphic, which is definitely can't be compared to Final Fantasy series. However, Suikoden series can be named as the most memorable with the best storyline ever released for PSX. In Suikoden game, you play as a young boy who receives the power of "Mysterious Rune" named Soul Eater and Bright Shield. With that power, you were once just an ordinary boy turned out to be a person who has to stop the civil war and stop the world from its destruction. The most fun part of this game is the different ways to recruit those 108 characters. There are various requirements that you have to fulfill in order to make them join your army. Once a character was recruited, they will stay in your castle to do various jobs such as running restaurants, opening shops and inn, and you can even take them as your party member to fight the dangerous monsters. If you managed to recruit all 108 characters, in the end you will get a different game ending that is much better than the normal ending.

It presents a dramatic story that will always be remembered until today; between the main character Cloud and his lover Aeris. Final Fantasy 8 was my first (and still favorite) RPG I ever played. It was so amazing back then and still today with the fighting system, the Junctioning was really fun for me, and the story really got to me. It was great for the time and now. I hope they make an HD remake one day of it and leave 7 alone. I loved 7 but 8 is better in my opinion!

Your list is the best list i've seen so far with the inclusions of rare games like Thousand Arms and Legend of Mana, both of which I had a chance to play and finish. Don't get me worng, FF eries are a great franchise but if your like me doesn't like to go mainstream, I say the former titles are two of the best RPG's ever.
