Mac Games Are the Rage All over

Mac Games Are the Rage All over

Virtual gaming has become the favourite pastime of teenagers and even young adults all over the world.

Virtual gaming has become the favourite pastime of teenagers and even young adults all over the world. Young kids and teens no longer feel inspired to go outside to play with friends instead they engage in competition and violent games in cyber space via virtual gaming on their desktop or laptop at home. Video games are pass and so is television or outdoor games.

This is the bold new era of computer games. Today it is ridiculous to even imagine a home that does not have a computer be it a state of the art latest model laptop or a rusty and a decade old desktop. Some homes have multiple laptops and PC for both adults and children. Easy access to technology has meant a laptop for very member of the house. No wonder kids prefer the world of virtual gaming to any other pass time.

Virtual gaming is fun and adventure filled without any actual danger or strenuous effort after all. Whether cycling or skate boarding or football every other sports will have its share of bruises but not free games for Mac that you download form the internet. You do not even need to make friends or find like minded people to indulge your passion.

All you really require is an internet connection to download games for Mac form World Wide Web. Teenagers who are often shy and socially inept find it easier to spend time playing virtual games on their favourite Mac laptop over going out and making friends.

Often with both parents working and unable to provide time teens find it easier to interact with imaginary characters in the gaming world rather than very real classmates at school. Moreover, high school can be brutal to the shy kid who is not popular enough to land a huge group of friends.

So you don''t have friends at school, no one''s at home, no one to talk to? Just escape into the fantasy world of virtual gaming. Here you can be anyone you want to be fighting, enjoying and living life vicariously.

There was a time when only books allowed such freedom and escape from the grind of daily life. Just like fairy tales and fantasy stories offered a flight of fancy into an imaginary world in early childhood, so does virtual gaming in teenage and adulthood. There are great simulation games, puzzles, games that are all about war and strategy as well as word games. Take you pick and download them for free.

Snapshots are visual portals to our past

Snapshots are visual portals to our past

Photos are the great memory joggers of our immediate past. A good photo brings back the emotions, smells, sounds and often trivial scraps of information from a long forgotten event.

Photography has come a long way since Louis Jacques Mand Daguerre ushered in the era of modern photography in 1839. Having a photo taken was a cumbersome, time consuming and expensive proposition for many of our ancestors. That's why so many of those rare, treasured portraits from those older members of our family tree have such a stiff, posed look.

By the late 1950s, though, snapshots were well within the reach of youngsters like me. My first camera was a Brownie Starflash, pretty much a box camera with an attached flash. I was a snapping fool, catching Utah's Devil's Slide from a Union Pacific passenger train, the curious Ossified John at the Pike amusement park in Long Beach, California, and an emergency unit racing past our house. Oh yes, and family. And friends.

Of course, today I shoot digital photos. They're relatively easy to shoot, the results look good and processing photos is as inexpensive as its been in my lifetime. But it's just not the same.

Have you been to a wedding where they have those cheap box cameras on the tables? My daughter did that at her wedding and, although she also had a professional photographer record the event, it's the snapshots from those table cameras that really capture the mood and joy of the occasion.

Professional photographer Jonathan Rubin captured my thoughts perfectly when he wrote: "I own the best digital camera gear and computers money can buy, but there still is something magical about how film records an image. It's physical, real. Light hits the emulsion and an image forms! Magic."

If, by any chance, you come across an old camera with some exposed film inside, photo detective Maureen Taylor has some advice on how to reveal what's lurking inside.

And, just for fun, there's a Flickr group that's collecting snapshots in which the photographer's shadow makes an appearance. That's one of them at the top of this post. I'm holding out for one that includes photographers' thumbs.

Larry Lehmer is a personal historian who helps people preserve their family histories. To learn more, visit his web site or send him an e mail.

Congrats on another great issue of Passing It On. It just the right length to read and get some good ideas and inspiration. But I also want to respond to this blog. I still have my Brownie Starflash! I even have some flash bulbs for it. I cherish the photos I took with it and only wish there were more. I remember dropping the film off at Wyrick Camera Center and going back a week later to pick up the snaps.

A good idea your readers might like is making an Ancester Album. I took all the old family photos grandmas and great aunts gave me, put them in my album and labeled them with birth and death dates and anything I knew about what was going on in the photo. My nieces and nephews love to go thru the album every Thanksgiving.

Have You Also Bought The Wrong Digital Camera

Have You Also Bought The Wrong Digital Camera

I have noticed in my 'learning digital photography' classes that more than two thirds of the students come back with the camera suggested by the salesman. And believe it or not they soon realize that it is not the correct equipment for them. This can be a very costly mistake. Now the question is how do you know which is the best digital camera for you.

The first thing that you will want to know about the digital camera which the salesman is playing hard to sell to you includes:

The time it takes for the camera to turn on and get ready to click the picture. The range is from 1 5 seconds in the camera consumer market while most of them take around 3 seconds.

The time taken by the camera to focus on the picture, not to click it. Typically cameras take from 1 3 seconds but is it mostly about 1 second.

The time taken by the camera to actually click the picture after the shutter button has been pushed completely?

When we see a cheaper camera, but not the cheapest it takes up to 9 seconds to click a picture from a camera which is switched off. It is possible that you think that you can leave your camera on, which is fine, but there will still be a time lag of around 3 seconds only for clicking the photo. It can be quite frustrating that after buying a new digital camera for about $400 $500 you discover that you just can't capture your child blowing out the birthday candles as the new camera took about 3 seconds to get ready at the vital moment of blowing the candles. This resulted in a picture of your child sitting in front of his cake with smoking candles.

Have you taken your camera with various exposure modes?

When we say exposure modes it means how does the camera infer a light reading? When you have a cheap camera, it does a complete reading which is a very limiting option. When it is a good digital camera it will come with a 'centre weighted', 'spot' and a 'matrix' metering system, which will let you click excellent photos in all kinds of lights.

When you are purchasing a digital camera, keep in mind that it is a regular camera and does not include a video camera. I had a student who showed me her camera which had all the required features which made it very expensive but the thing it couldn't do well was to shoot still photos.

It is possible to get a lot from your new digital camera and all you need to do is give some time for learning to use it correctly and click good pictures. Keep in mind that nobody wants to look at bad pictures twice!

Rebekah Monson

Rebekah Monson

I just finished my last project of the semester, The Game a simulation game about becoming a successful rapper. Creating it has been an incredibly important experience for me as a designer.

See, I set out to make a game about student loan debt. And I quickly realized no one wants to play a game about student loan debt. It a hugely important issue, but it makes for a hugely dull context for a game.

I wanted to take on a serious issue! I wanted people to learn from all the freaking research I did on default rates and average loan burden.

I settled on rap, because I love it, sure, but also because success in the field is so deeply tied to brands and material wealth. I scoured rapgenius for allusions to expensive items. I designed a system of record advances and career impacts that make it very hard to reach Jay Z moguldom. And, it not perfect yet, but it is fun, and it definitely makes people think hard about debt.

Designing The Game has made me wrestle with my brain in the best possible way. I am both a journalist and a designer. One half of me abhors obfuscation and the other thinks abstraction is a perfectly lovely tool to get one point across. I interested in making news games, and the mental olympics in this design challenge were an important test for my assumptions on both sides.

I think journalism can and should leverage play and the deep engagement games produce for more meaningful understanding of complex issues. I think this fits our primary goal of informing, and it an exciting evolution toward informing through choice and experimentation rather than through the act of repeating. But, if news games are going to work, we have to be willing to find the right frame and bend toward fun.

The good news is that it already being done. (After I do a lot more polishing.)

ability to forgive oneself. Stop here for a few breaths and think about this, because it is the key to making art and very possibly the key to finding any semblance of happiness in life. Every time I have set out to translate the book (or story, or hopelessly long essay) that exists in such brilliant detail on the big screen of my limbic system onto a piece of paper (which, let's face it, was once a towering tree crowned with leaves and a home to birds), I grieve for my own lack of talent and intelligence. Every. Single. Time. Were I smarter, more gifted, I could pin down a closer facsimile of the wonders I see. Forgiveness, therefore, is key. I can't write the book I want to write, but I can and will write the book I am capable of writing. Again and again throughout the course of my life I will forgive myself.

In her beautiful meditation on the writing life, Ann Patchett adds to our ongoing archive of wisdom on writing. Pair with Patchett's advice to graduates on writing and life. (via explore blog)

I told my friendMirandathatI working on a final project for my game design class that takes place in a rap universe. Sheresponded, like Flappy Bird. And I was all, buuuuuuutttttt I checked out a very excellent tutorial from Thomas Palef on making a Flappy Bird clone in HTML5and I made this grossRappyBirdclone in about an hourish. It was good fun, and it made me want to mess around more with the Phaser framework, since IJavascript despite that it all dirty dirty.

Anyway, jokes often prove good teachers for me. Cranking out silly doodads to amuse my friends and myself has taught me a lot about making useful things for the web, so it a time waster that doesn make me feel like a total waste.

Jokes are also the impetus behind some other projects that I have really enjoyed recently, especially the work of Pippin Barr, whom I would love to meet some day:

Since June,Chicas Poderosashas helped more than 1,000 Latin American journalists learn digital skills and use them in their communities. Attendees at the immersive, hands on digital storytelling workshops have researched and prototyped digital projects on water issues, agriculture, crime, elections and demographics in Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico. The event is organized by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) with the support of Knight Foundation. Chicas Poderosas was created by ICFJ Knight International Journalism FellowMariana Santosduring her fellowship year.

I spent the weekend working with some awesome journalists, designers and technologists at SNDMakesDesignathonon story forms in Indianapolis. It was a whirlwind of great ideas, cool people and interesting prototypes. As we create more complex stories online, it often becomes difficult for users to understand the particular topics within a story that interest their friends. We want to help surface those ideas to better integrate conversation within storytelling and to further engage users within editorial products.

If developed into an actual product, Sluice could also help editorial teams get granular social data on their work and improve taxonomy by dynamically generating tags and topics based on how the story is discussed in social media. Understanding what points truly matter to users can help editorial teams improve future coverage decisions.

Building out Sluice would require some serious work with natural language processing and robust integration with social APIs (aka stuff that we didn have time to do in a weekend hack). Our prototype used only a small dataset and hand selected, rather than programmatic data analysis. (Also, full disclosure, I need to go back and make it responsive.) I think there great potential for a tool that could improve storytelling and the social news environment by closing the feedback loop around ideas within stories.

I had an absolute blast this weekend, and I left smarter and more invigorated about the untapped possibilities of online news design. All of the prototypes that came out of the event were terrific. Check them out:

Backstory: Gives users context on a story.(Blog post from Mike Swartz explaining the project.)

Skim: Helps users skim longform stories on mobile.

VideoSlider: Allows users to scan long form video content. (Works best on desktop.)

PS: My teammateCory wrote a great recap of the weekend and the importance of building community over at the Vox Product blog.

Chicas Poderosas is coming to Miami!

Woo! Chicas Poderosas an organization dedicated to empowering Latin American journalists to excel in visual storytelling, data visualization and interactive media with hands on skills training will hold its first workshop in the United States from April 17 to 20 in Miami.

I been working with Chicas founder Mariana Santos and Miranda Mulligan(two of the most amazing chicas I know) on getting the workshop here since the fall, and I cannot wait for all the awesomeness this will bring to Miami journalists. Hope you join us!

Industry Analysis

Industry Analysis

A guest post from our media expert:

A recent American study has concluded that as many as a million people, worldwide, are highly addicted to playing with model railways. The condition affects mainly middle aged males some of whom are alleged to spend up to eighty hours a week, involved in what experts have described as a 'dangerously solitary pursuit' and 'a compulsion that interferes with normal life.' A significant percentage of the respondents within the study suffered from agitation when they were unable to play with trains, or missed sleep or meals to tend to their layouts, or source small industrial shunters, online. In the extreme phases of addiction, men may regard personal hygiene as a waste of time, suffer from weight gain and disrupted sleep patterns, avoid phone calls from friends and find themselves lying about time spent tinkering with low reduction gear boxes. men are perceived to be in danger of losing all social skills and ceasing to interact with their families altogether. 'We don't know where this might go in the future,' said a commentator on a recent television chat show. 'After all, technology is developing all the time, and we have no idea what this kind of thing might be doing to their brains. These men seem to prefer lurking in their own attics, fiddling with ever more extensive layouts, rather than socialising with the oppposite sex or interacting with other human beings.'

Playing with model railways is admitted to be a largely male pursuit. Although the average model rail enthusiast is a middle aged man, companies make a determined effort to target young children while their parents ignorant of the dangers purchase whatever railway books and toys their children request. The addiction is fuelled by occasional conventions at which participants are encouraged to spend large sums of money. On a recent panel show, a media celebrity announced that many mass murderers had confessed to playing with model railways at some point, thus demonstrating an unambigious connection between model railways and psychosis. She further stated that travelling by real trains was infinitely preferable. 'It's giving these men access to houses, strange headwear and unregulated model railway kits that's the problem,' she said. 'These activities promote sexism and are as addictive as cocaine. I would never ever participate in any activity which associated model trains with entertainment. This kind of event isn't just disastrous for the company it's bad for its creditors and investors and bad for the Scottish industry as a whole. The coalition government, intent on withdrawing support from the industry, should take note. It's very hard to get people 'off benefits' if you are also creating the very conditions which jeopardise jobs.

But can we learn something from this? Perhaps we can. In an industry which is changing and developing so quickly, perhaps it was inadvisable to concentrate efforts on a project huge, so expensive, and something which would take so very long to develop. Something dare we say it so very macho. It seems to us, that gambling a great deal of time and money on any single project is a risk only worth taking if the project in question is part of a classic franchise with a certain 'buzz' remaining from previous iterations.

But hindsight is easy. If the gamble had come off, we'd all be on the sidelines cheering. All the same, smaller, more flexible companies which can react to current situations Tag Games, another Dundee based company, springs to mind are likely to do better in this very difficult economic climate. Realtime was a company we wanted to work for, a company we admired but it was also a supertanker of a company, and they are notoriously difficult to slow down and turn round, when faced with oncoming hazards. All the same, our sympathies are with the whole company there, but for the grace of God, go most of us. Let's hope a buyer is found, and that many of the jobs can be saved.

I would like to begin by stating that I am far from a games industry veteran, and not the of all gaming knowledge. The tips below are generated from my own personal experience, although I imagine many people will relate to them. The who know they do any of the above will likely they can write. It is almost a sad fact of life that writing is one of those skills which falls under the can do that category, whether it be technical, analytical or creative. create design documents because is deemed the easy option compared to and art. should writing the design document be the easy option, if done properly? There are many who state that the most important program a designer must use word processor, but you be surprised as to how many cannot use one. There are many wannabee who become far too hung up on the story of a game. can all understand the and is likely judged as discussed However, designer may never go near the story of a game, even more so the junior ranks. To achieve good storytelling in games the combined of the whole team, which means the small games you create with your college friends will have minimal story (Point and click adventure being a possible exception). if you are very much a creative designer, and not particularly technical (mod community, scripting, etc), there is a lot more you can do than simply writing down story ideas. Design puzzles, doodle, draw use MS Paint (yes!), put together a combat or damage system, use your imagination. I have to say I do not see learning within the programming discipline. It is a heavily aptitude based skill, with a you can or you can factor. If you are thinking of undertaking a Computer Science or Games Technology degree, then my advice would be to give programming a year. If you genuinely practise and throw everything at your coursework, but no sign of improvement after this point, then cut your losses and get out. save you a lot of stress later on. It will not get any easier and as the material becomes more abstract will become even confused. I got a degree in Pure Maths so I not saying this lightly. are not Programmers! I must stress this.

Nine times out of ten, those us who aspire to be successful in the creative industries will come across this breed of person. They get away with it, and it is something I feel strongly about. You may come across this type when asking for career advice will take heavily sceptical tone, remind you of how hard it is to make it big, of the miles there is between you and your dreams. Vapid, thoughtless bullshit basically. Remind them that you are not a 14 year old who just wants to be famous. You are probably passionate, dedicated, talented, qualified, above all just asking for some friendly tips! These people probably back on the industry, and have likely been burned by sideways promotions, bad decisions, or their own general negativity. This is sad for them but don let it affect you.

I understand that I mentioned being realistic with regard to game writing, but I must stress the difference between being practically realistic on occasion, for your own development, compared to being a complete realist. We all know that not everyone become a Hollywood star, but to me, these never truly believe that anything good will happen to them. To get experience with no experience

This is the main problem facing graduates looking to break into games, and sadly I have no easy answer to this. The best I can come up with is never to up. Try everything you can possibly think of. Go to conferences, make friends in high places or even in low places (any contacts in the industry good), undertake slave labour cough I mean internships, make small get a position in the department; always be working on your own projects in your free time. You have to find a roundabout way, and get a bit lucky! So long as you are enjoying what you do, none of this time will be wasted.

I think it a great shame that story driven games have been to a great extent sidelined by market. It fair to say that traditional point and click adventure games have been superceded by action adventure games. This, I feel, is a natural progression. The wherewithall to include real time action based sequences became available and developers jumped at the chance. This certainly a game concept to the public. The slower paced adventuring elements remained and became integrated into the bigger picture. A similar fate befell arcade versus many beat ups; the idea of melee combat against many CPU controlled opponents became a central gameplay system of the action adventure game.

This is, however, not an excuse for overlooking the story element of games. In my opinion, there are far too many games which a story onto the minute to minute gameplay. The result is an action montage in which rash and persistent gamers feel the need to one hundred percent complete the game, with all collectibles and achievements/trophies. The enough argument does exist. If it sells, why change it? But this doesn help the serious problem of stagnation. I see it happening already with the creativity dwindling away within this so called creative industry. Fewer risks are being taken, more franchises with number of sequels and there are, of course, fewer opportunities for new and aspiring developers. My list could go on and on.

This is why I support new IPs every step of the way. Heavy Rain is one such. It a mature, story driven, interactive drama, following the actions of four very different people, as they track the Origami Killer, a serial killer on the loose who drowns his targets, leaving only an origami figure and an orchid on the victim body. Even the synopsis on the back of the game box had me intrigued. Although far from a traditional adventure title, it is the modern day equivalent, focussing fully on the story. It a game where memorising complex strings of buttons is not necessary. It is also a much needed game, something a bit more sophisticated and imaginative for the older, indeed less stereotypical gamer. Or perhaps that should be a more general statement. There is a problem. It is one that affects any young person who about a career in the video games industry and at the last count that was a great many young people. Just look at the courses offer, as we plan to do over the next year or so. It is a problem such magnitude that suggestions as to how it can be remedied would be very welcome indeed.

How does a young graduate, with a reasonably rigorous degree from an excellent university, a strong cv, plenty of enthusiasm, and a certain amount of work experience, well, to put it bluntly, more relevant experience? Enough experience, in other words, to begin to be for job within the games industry that doesn involve a tremendously short, zero hours contract (advances on two months, anyone?) on minimum wage with no possibility of advancement.

Games Like the Sims Social

Games Like the Sims Social

On June 14th, 2013 EA plans to shut down Sims Social, Sim City Social, and Pet Society. This decision was a devastating blow to loyal patrons of the game, especially after the shut down of their other titles Restaurant City and Country Story. The decision to shut down the games was apparently due to a lull in gamer activity and the need to reallocate resources to other projects.

Personally, this was the last straw for me. Admittedly, there was a lull in my activity on Sims Social, but it wasn't due to a lack of interest in the game. I was fed up with my game constantly crashing, or loading at a snail's pace. I never played Sim City, but as for my activity on Pet Society, I found it irritating that anything interesting had to be bought with real money with no way to earn the gold to get it.

So, before EA even announced they were shutting down the games on facebook, I had already started looking for alternatives. For those interested in still killing some time on facebook with cool simulation games check out this list and see if anything interests you.

In this game you are a young woman from the country who has moved to the city to make a life for herself. With the help of your friends you pursue your dream career, build up a fabulous wardrobe, and make your way from the slums to the glamorous part of the town.

Disney City Girl is like Sims Social because you are able to customize your character and buy clothes for her. You are also able to buy properties and furnish them. There are quests you can complete for cool items. You can visit your friends and interact with their homes and socialize with them by sending them items for quests or to decorate their home.

ConsThere isn't an option to play as a male in this game and you can't change the body shape.

You can own multiple properties but can only live in one at a time. When you move your furnishings reset to how the apartment looked before you moved in.

You need at least 6 friends on the game to get the most out of it.

Depending on your time zone you may get less votes in the Daily Look

Since it is a new game, job choices are currently limited, but this is only a temporary con.

New hairstyles and many other items require an in game currency (Gold) that costs real world money.

ProsThe game loads very smoothly and quickly and there aren't any serious glitches.

Quests are straightforward and provide the tools needed to complete them.

Players can enjoy the game without needing an extensive amount of friends playing.

There are several ways to earn gold, which is usually bought with real money.

There are several jobs to choose from and every promotion earns your character a new item.

The graphics and art are attractive and the quest stories are entertaining.

Every week there's a new quest to keep the game fresh.

The Daily Look provides an opportunity to show off your wardrobe and earn more gems.

Clothing requirements for job tasks let you utilize the clothes in your wardrobe and earn more coins.

You can now travel to other places, like Venice, Italy.

ConsYou are only given the items you choose at the very beginning of the game, everything else must be bought.

Hairstyles come in very limited colours and you have to purchase each colour in the hairstyle you want instead of being able to use colour swatches.

When you go to the beach you can't really interact with the NPCs

At this point, the items you can buy to customize your avatar and home seem a bit limited, but this will probably change in the future.

In order to get ahead in quests and in your career you are required to have a certain number of friends.

Top 4 Free Android Apps

Top 4 Free Android Apps

With the Android Market, users can download a variety of applications, which install automatically on their phone. These apps provide all kinds services and functions and increase the features of any Android device ten fold. Although some Android apps cost money, the majority are free. And if you are like me, then you know the best things in life are free! Here are the top four free Android apps from Android Market. Times. Don't you want to stay connected with them while you're on the go? Well, there is an Android app for that. Facebook for Android is a free app from Android Market that serves as a portal to the popular social networking site. With the app, users can keep track of their news feed, send messages to friends and update their status right from their phone. Users can also upload photos to Facebook via Facebook for Android. Aside from giving users quick access to Facebook from their Android device, the app also comes with a homescreen widget. The widget displays recent status updates from all of your Facebook friends. This keeps you up to date on the goings on of Facebook without having to open the app at all! This free app is officially developed by Facebook.

Opera Mini is an Android app that serves as an alternative to Android's default web browser (Browser). It is a extremely lightweight browser that loads mobile versions of websites. Opera Mini loads most websites much faster than Android's Browser loads the full HTML site. Extra speed is also accomplished by Opera compressing and routing the page through their own servers. Opera Mini is a free app in the Android Market, so go download it and get to "speed browsing"!

Twidgit Lit

As one might guess from the name, Twidgit Lite is a Twitter widget. It allows the user to view the most recent tweet from themselves or other twitterati that they are following. And the best part is, Twidgit Lite lets users do this right from your homescreen! You can even set the widget to update on a specific interval from five minutes up to one hour. This way you never fall out of your Twitter loop. The Twidget Lite Android app also allows you to update your Twitter status by opening the widget. Twidget Lite is a free app in the Market, so download at will.

Google Voice

This is my personal favorite of all the free Android apps that I have used. Google Voice is a new service from Google that gives the user his own personal phone number. You then can use your Google Voice number to make phonecalls or send SMS messages from the web. And the Android app lets users do the same from their Android device. This means users can make and receive calls and text messages on your Google Voice number through your phone. Google Voice also archives all voicemails and SMS messages online, so you will never lose that important message. Google Voice and its free Android app are just starting out and Google says there are many new features to come. Unfortunately, Google Voice numbers are provided on an invitation only basis, at the time of this writing. However, I applied for an invitation and received a number, so I'm sure you can, too!

10 Best RPG Games for PSX

10 Best RPG Games for PSX

What is the best RPG game for PSX?Do you still remember the best RPG games for PSX that are very popular all over the world from the year of 1998 to the early 2000s? For those of you who had the experience to play these RPG games, there is certainly a very memorable and special memories remains. While the graphics quality of RPG games in PSX can't be compared to today's games, the storyline of those RPG games are truly extraordinary and even better compared to the latest modern games. Love, hatred, tragedy, comedy; everything were presented well within the games, and I have to admit that shed tears a lot when playing these games. This great experience of playing this game is always remembered in our memory along with the variety of great songs and soundtrack of those wonderful PSX role playing games. So, what are the 10 best RPG games for PSX? Here's the list:

10. Legend of ManaThis game is not very popular, but for those who had the chance to play it, Legend of Mana is sure provides them with the best experience of playing an RPG game. This game has "non linear" storyline, where you can build your own world and choose the path where the story should be continued, which character should be helped, and there are many more decisions that are very important that you should make, and those decisions will influence the game. This game also has great mini games, such as making your own weapons and magic, capturing and breeding monsters to be pet and your adventure buddy, growing crops and fruits in magical garden, and many more. All of these fun element are mixed with beautiful two dimensional graphics and amazing music. The storyline of this game is also very deep and bears good messages, where the greed and wickedness of man resulted heavy damage in "Mana Tree" and triggered the birth of dangerous monsters in the world.

Some of the most memorable characters in this game are Niccolo, a fat mercenary rabbit; Bud and Lisa, a pair of witches sibling who later decide to stay in your home; Elazul, a handsome and mysterious knights; Daena, a loyal, trustworthy cat lady, and many more great characters.

9. Harvest Moon : Back to NatureThis game is actually more appropriate to be classified as a simulation game, but because there is still an element of "Role Playing", I decided to include Harvest Moon in this list. In Harvest Moon, you play as a young man who inherits a plot of agricultural land from your grandfather. You are required to cultivate the land within three years, by growing various crops, raise cattle, chickens, goats, as well as establish good relationship with the villagers. If you manage to do everything well, then you will be allowed to have the farm.

Harvest Moon is a very different game and it is very addictive. Most of the games usually require us to kill the evil enemies, but Harvest Moon taught us to love nature and do good things to help others. The most exciting part of this game is when you can marry a village girl of your choice (Popuri, May, Karen, Ann, or Ellie) and you can eventually have children. In addition, there are many festivals and mini games like dancing festival, cooking competitions, chicken sumo competitions, festivals to choose the best cows and sheep. Indeed, it's a very exciting game to play.

8. Digimon World 1 (Digital Monster)There are three series of type Digimon game that was released for PSX (Digimon World, Digimon 2, and Digimon 3), but among those three games, Digimon World is simply the best. In this game, you are given a monster based on a personality tests. This young monster can turn into stronger monster after going through exercises and battles. The monster's transformation also depends on the way you take care of it. If the monster experiences a lot of disappointment and sadness, then it could turn into a dark, devilish monster. If the monster is taken care perfectly, then it could be a very powerful figure.

In Digimon game, you are given a task to recruit 108 wild Digimon who scattered in different parts of the world to join your city. Those Digimons who join this city later will open new facilities in the city, such as hardware stores, restaurants, duel arena, and many more. If all 108 Digimon has been collected, then you need to fight the last boss named Machinedramon.

7. Valkyrie ProfileThis game is known for its beautiful graphics that is dominated by two dimensional illustrations. In Valkyrie Profile, your play as "Lenneth", a warrior of Odin who collects the souls of the brave soldiers who died in the battlefield. You also have duty to train those souls, make them be stronger, and equip them with the best armor before sending it to Valhalla (Odin's palace).

The coolest factor of Valkyrie Profile is the very satisfying battle system. In this game, you can make hundreds of lethal combos, which ended with a cool killing move animation. This game also has a complex storyline and wonderful dialogue that will make you simply fall in love.

6. Wild ArmsWild Arms series can be named as one of the most beautiful RPG ever created for PSX. Located in the western world is full of monsters and bandits, Wild Arms presents its story in the form of cool anime style cut scenes. Every character in this game have very unique personality and every character are very different from each other in terms of skills, equipment, and combat preferences. The battle system in Wild Arms is also very cool and addicting.

Wild Arms series also classified as an RPG game with the hardest puzzle to be solved. Some puzzles are even very difficult, and makes you think very hard before finally being able to solve them.

5. XenogearsIf you are looking for the coolest RPG game for PSX, Xenogears is the best answer. This game can be regarded as a masterpiece of Squaresoft, and perhaps can only be equaled by Final Fantasy series. Xenogears has an extraordinarily storyline, which is very complex and require hundreds of hours to complete. The world in Xenogears feels gloomy, dark, and cruel; but behind all of those, there is a memorable adventure that you would remember it for a long time.

What is the coolest thing from Xenogears? The answer is: Robot! Yeah, in this game you can use and control a numerous robots to help you in your adventure. These robots are very tough, and has a variety of moves that can be combined to create stronger power.

4. Thousand ArmsThis game is also considered to be a rare game. It is very fortunate for those of you who had the chance to play Thousand Arms because this game presents a lot of cool features of an RPG. Your play as Meis, a young hero who thirst for adventure. In this game, you do not only have to defeat the evil enemies, but also to establish good relations with the female characters and dating them. On many occasions of the game, you will be brought into a cut scene where you have to talk to the female characters and make some decisions. The right decisions will bring a positive reaction, and conversely you can also fail miserably during the date. Positive reaction will give you a variety of powerful items that are very useful in combat and sometimes even generate a new storyline.

The best thing of Thousand Arms is the design of ever characters, which resembles characters from Japanesa anime. The great storyline also certainly enhances the immersion in the world of Thousand Arms. Another great thing from this game is the soundtrack, titled "Depend on You" sung by Ayumi Hamasaki, one of Japan's most popular singers at the time.

3. Chrono CrossChrono Cross was released in the end of PSX's glorious moment. This game is one of the few PSX games that received very high rating, above 9 (out of a maximum of 10) from Gamespot. Indeed, in terms of the quality of a game, Chrono Cross is superb. There are dozens of characters with different looks, strengths, and abilities. The storyline in this game is also very touching, and there are two different endings that you can get, depending on how you play this game. In addition, the "Radical Dreamers" which became the main soundtrack of Chrono Cross was also named as one of the best video game soundtracks of all time.

Chrono Cross is about an adventure of Serge, a boy that can move from one dimension to another. Serge's adventure starts from a very simple mission: finding a gift for his girlfriend, then turn out to be a very complex mission to save the world. He has to fight with the six different dragons , recruits dozens of characters to help him, and finally defeat the "Time Devourer" to end the game.

2. Suikoden SeriesSuikoden series is an RPG game with a very simple graphic, which is definitely can't be compared to Final Fantasy series. However, Suikoden series can be named as the most memorable with the best storyline ever released for PSX. In Suikoden game, you play as a young boy who receives the power of "Mysterious Rune" named Soul Eater and Bright Shield. With that power, you were once just an ordinary boy turned out to be a person who has to stop the civil war and stop the world from its destruction. You also have to build your own empire, and collect all 108 other characters to help you in your missions.

The most fun part of this game is the different ways to recruit those 108 characters. There are various requirements that you have to fulfill in order to make them join your army. Once a character was recruited, they will stay in your castle to do various jobs such as running restaurants, opening shops and inn, and you can even take them as your party member to fight the dangerous monsters. If you managed to recruit all 108 characters, in the end you will get a different game ending that is much better than the normal ending.

1. Final Fantasy SeriesFinal Fantasy series can be named as the best role playing video games for PSX console. Final Fantasy 7 is the game that started huge success of the series. It presents a dramatic story that will always be remembered until today; between the main character Cloud and his lover Aeris. This game also gave birth to Tifa Lockhart, one of the prettiest and sexiest female characters in the video game world.

Final Fantasy 8 tells a very romantic love story between Squall Leonhart and Rinoa. This game also gained great success in the market, and became one of the best selling PSX game ever. Final Fantasy 8 has the best graphics quality at that time, filled with beautiful three dimensional movie like cut scenes that seem very amazing at that time.

Final Fantasy 9 was released at the end of PSX's greatest time. This game comes just few months before PSX was retired and replaced by the new console, PS2. Final Fantasy 9 tells about the adventure of Zidane Tribal, Princess Garnet, Steiner, Vivi, and their comrades that was presented in four compact discs. The main theme songs of this game, "Melodies of Life" is considered one of the best songs from the Final Fantasy series, and even in the world of gaming.

Final Fantasy 8 was my first (and still favorite) RPG I ever played. It was so amazing back then and still today with the fighting system, the Junctioning was really fun for me, and the story really got to me. It was great for the time and now. I hope they make an HD remake one day of it and leave 7 alone. I loved 7 but 8 is better in my opinion!

Errickson Bituin 8 weeks ago

Your list is the best list i've seen so far with the inclusions of rare games like Thousand Arms and Legend of Mana, both of which I had a chance to play and finish. Don't get me worng, FF eries are a great franchise but if your like me doesn't like to go mainstream, I say the former titles are two of the best RPG's ever.

I was able to visit my 78 year old mother recently and asked her why she keeps buying throwaway film cameras and not buy a nice digital camera. Her answer wasn't a great surprise, with all the advances in cameras and all the features, megapixel this, optical zoom with image stabilization that that it was hard to find out what the best digital camera for seniors was. I was able to help my mother do research on cameras and in the process I came up with different features to take in to account while picking out the best camera for seniors.

I was surprised to find out what isn't the key feature when finding the best digital camera for seniors. The key features aren't the number of mega pixels, not the amount of zoom or even the camera size. The key feature in the best camera for seniors is how easy it is to read the dials on the camera.

Next time you are at the store and want to pick out the best digital camera for seniors you'll notice how pretty and shiny most of them are. With all of this shine comes glare and glare makes it hard to see the dials (even for my 40 year old eyes). So a real shiny camera isn't the best camera for seniors. Look for black matte dials and controls when doing a comparison for the best camera for seniors.

Besides not having a shiny surface the best camera for seniors needs to be easy to use and understand. The best digital camera for seniors should have menus on it that explain what the settings are for, the icons need to be easy to read and interpret.

A major plus for the best digital camera for seniors is if it comes with bundled software that makes it easy to download the pictures to a computer and easily make adjustments to the photos. In the ideal world the best camera for seniors will also come with software that will make it easy to upload the photos to the internet so they can be shared with friends and family worldwide. Since I'm going to dream, I'll dream big and look for the best digital camera for seniors to also be related to easy to use printers and photo frames so the photographer (did you notice that by getting the best digital camera for seniors the user is transformed into a photographer, not just a senior?) can have one big easy to use system.

So when looking for the the best digital camera for seniors look for a non shiny, easy to read and understand camera that is just one part of an integrated digital photography system.

When I did my hunt for the best digital camera for seniors I was able to find a fully loaded, 10x optical zoom camera with image stabilization. What this means is just because the key features doesn't need to be a low quality, featureless camera.

Fun Airplane Games

Fun Airplane Games

There are a number of different types of airplane games, including combat airplane games and more straight laced flight simulation games. They may be played on a PC computer on various consoles, such as the PlayStation 3. In a combat airplane game, the player often controls a virtual aircraft, such as a military aircraft, and fires bullets or missiles from the aircraft. Simulation flight games aren't violent: the player will control a virtual airplane in a simulated setting, purely to enjoy the experience of the controlling the flight itself.

"Ace Combat: Assault Horizon" is available to play on multiple gaming consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. "Ace Combat: Assault Horizon" is a violent war drama that takes place in a number of virtual locations that have been modeled to resemble real world locations. Players participate in combat by controlling virtual military aircrafts that shoot bullets and missiles at enemies. "Ace Combat: Assault Horizon" involves dogfighting with other aircrafts and attacking ground based targets, including enemy vehicles.

MapleStory iTCG Online closing down

MapleStory iTCG Online closing down

Nexon's MapleStory iTCG online card game which has been in beta since last year has officially announced it will be closing down the service as of Thursday, June 10th. The beta had only the initial card set from the "real life" version of the card game and was able to be played with no download in the browser.

iTCG plays a lot like other popular card games of the day, such as Magic the Gathering, although definitely a bit more lighthearted in spirit being based on Nexon's popular side scrolling MMORPG, MapleStory. The game has been praised for removing one of Magic's biggest problems, being "mana screwed" by allowing players to use any of their cards as resources.

As a thank you, Nexon America will give iTCG beta testers a number of bonus items including 10,000 iTCG points to purchase booster packs to enjoy the game until June 10. Everyone who registered for iTCG before May 25th and signs up for PopTag! between May 25th and June 6th is eligible to receive 1,000 NX and a free gift in PopTag!, our water balloon based action game.

It's sad to see an online CCG with some promise shut down, but it looks like this is the end for an online MapleStory iTCG.
