Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 8.5
I love, hate, and loathe collectible card games (ccgs). I enjoy the social aspect of it, sitting around a table with your friends, and seeing who's deck is the biggest and baddest. Win or loose, it's can be a ton of fun. As fun as they are, they are very demanding. You have to buy a starter deck (or few), some booster packs, a box (or few) to keep you cards together, and to be competitive it's a good idea to grab a few boosters or buy single cards whenever a new expansion set comes out. It's a very time consuming and expensive process for something you might be able to do only once every few months. Well, now Wizards of the Coast has made it possible to play on your Xbox. True some of the nostalgia and ambiance is lost a little holding a controller in your hands instead of cards, but surprisingly the feel of the game itself is not lost in the transition at all. In fact, it is a nice blast from the past that takes little to no time at all to get back in the swing of, and it is just as potentially addicting as the card game itself.
You have 8 different decks to choose from, when you unlock them all of course. You can customize your decks with unlocked content, and both single player campaigns and "Two Headed Giant" co op campaigns. You start off with 2 decks, red and green, and work toward unlocking more as you play through the campaign. You also unlock more cards each time you play your deck provided you win. Being out of the Magic: The Gathering loop for the last decade or so, I can't say exactly if there are any new cards or not, but there are plenty of classic favorites that former players should remember. Some of these cards are Terror, Craw Wurm, Shiven Dragon, and Serra Angel. The game allows for the novice who has yet to play the game before and offers a detailed explaination to the game as well as a hints and tips while you are playing. For those who are proficient, these hints can be turned off at will. If you are unfamiliar with the different levels of play, what you can do at what time, the game will prevent you from making a wrong move. When players cast their cards on the gameboard, you have a chance to look at each card as it is cast and you can take a closer look during your own turn. You each take turn casting your spells, creatures, and enchantments until you depleat your opponent's 20 hit points and win the game. The only real problems I have with the game is that I have yet to find a way to build a multi colored deck. When I used to play, I combined two colors that worked well together. It doesn't look like you can do that here. Another problem I have is that there is no undo button. When I played a friendly game, I would allow a muligan (so to speak) for my friends. Sometimes a silly mistake can be your downfall in this game, so you need to be careful. All in all, the game is a lot of fun, pretty cheep, and possesses a large amount of replay value.
Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers released this week on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 MS points. If you download the full game, you will receive a code to enter on the Wizards of the Coast website. When you enter the code on the site, you will be sent a limited edition foil card of Garruk Wildspeaker, one of your opponents in the game.
To get more information on Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers, the ccg, or any of the other numerous Wizards of the Coast products, feel free to check out the website. Oh, and don't forget to redeem your code for your card as well.

What is Hearthstone
What is Hearthstone
Anyone who attended Blizzcon might have caught a glimpse of what Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is. There was a big invitational right in the middle of Blizzcon, that held both Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm, both games currently, are being made by the famous powerhouse of a game maker that brought us Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft and more.
SummarySo in all view and aspect, Hearthstone is pretty much a trading card game( except there's no trading, yet) You pick a hero that determines what kind of playstyle you have and you practice it again and again until you get used to the hero. The game has different characters from the Warcraft series and you can see a lot of familiar faces if you played Warcraft before.
There's a lot of different ways to play and I think that they might add more as it is in Beta right now. Considering that there are already a lot of people in the game, it's going to be quite famous and people will just simply love it because of how simple yet complex the mechanics are.
PresentationI have Hearthstone in my laptop( which is probably 7 years old by now) and on my gaming computer, and I'm proud to say that I could play the game in my laptop with no problem whatsoever. The game requires only minimum specs to play it on medium quality and if you have more than the required specs then you can play the game on a higher quality (there's not much difference however).
The game is played on a "Board" where different players have the place where they draw a card, where they place the card and where each hero is located. The "Board" looks very simple yet it is decorated very well. Different structures in the board can be interacted with, just in case you get bored waiting for your opponent to make a move. I've seen about three different "Boards" already in play, and I think that there might be more when the game is fully completed.
The way the game looks is very simple, it doesn't overwhelm as much as anything else, when it comes to effects and the way the game feels, it plays solid and fluently, without lags in my old laptop.
GameplayAs might you have read earlier, Hearthstone is a card game. Everytime you play, Yu gi oh, Pokemon, or even Poker, you know that you're going to have different cards that could have different impact in the game. The same in Hearthstone, different cards have different impact in the game, the bigger and the better the effect or the stats of each card, the bigger "mana" cost you'll need.
That is probably a new thing for people/gamers, "mana" in a card game. Well it's not altogether that new, like in Pokemon the card game, you need energy to let your Pokemons attack, or in Yu gi oh where you need to sacrifice a monster to put a bigger and stronger monster in the field. That's the same with mana, you get one mana each turn, starting from the beginning continuing to the end with a maximum of ten mana. So the game starts you off with one mana, then as each turn continues you gain and gain mana, until you have ten mana every turn. Why, you ask? Different minions have required mana for them to be played starting off with the weaker minion with a one attack and one life; they mostly require only one mana to play. Later on, you'll have a seven seven minion with an effect, now that requires much more mana. To put it in simpler terms, mana limits you to what kind of play you can make each turn and the mana system seperates early game, mid game, and late game, this helps the players adapt and catch up at some point.
Another key element to the game is the heroes that you play. Each hero has different playstyles, different skills, and different cards that are only meant for them. For example, playing as the Priest requires you to enter late game since you rely on harder hitting monsters and buffing them; however, that is not the case everytime. Playing as the Priest can just be healing or buffing monsters that can have a big effect in the game. Another example, playing as the mage, can have you a lot of spell power and lesser creatures, but then again, you can have a lot of creatures and spells to cover them. You can adjust to whatever playstyle you want and what you think can win you the game.
Adapting is the name of the game. You never know what card you'll pick from your thirty card deck, you can customize the deck, however, but you can't see or pick what card you want to play. I've lost games just because of having bad card pick ups, but that's the challenge of it. You have to customize your deck to the playstyle you want and adapt to the continually changing gameplay of each different game you play, because you never know what card or what kind your opponent would be.

Squidoo: Spot It!! The Card Game for Everyone
These days, especially in the cold winter months, going out in the evening fighting the weather or spending a ton of money for dinner and a movie just doesn work for us. So staying home wins hands down everytime! I turned into quite the family and/or friend game night hostess. In fact, I found that it can be a lot more fun than I thought. Especially if you have the Spot It Card game on hand. So staying home wins hands down everytime! I turned into quite the family and/or friend game night hostess. Sony's Free Augmented Reality Games for PS Vita
Sony's Free Augmented Reality Games for PS Vita
When you buy a shiny new PS Vita, one of the things you'll find in the box is a pack of six Augmented Reality (AR) cards (look for them with the various other bits of paperwork). On one side, they've got a slick blue PS Vita design, and on the other they have big black glyphs and not quite so big grey numbers. On the info card that comes packed in with the AR cards, it says "download a selection of free games to play with your AR Play Cards" the three games below are said selection. Use your AR cards to create different diving boards and pools for Diver Dan, then use the PS Vita's controls to get Diver to Dan to dive off the boards into the pools. The more you master the controls and timed button presses, the better your dives and the better your score. The aim of Cliff Diving is to get perfect scores and win the prize money (not real money, alas).
You can't just make Diver Dan leap off the board and into the water, though (well, you can, but not if you want to do well). First you have to build up adrenaline by timing your button presses with his heartbeat. Then you also have to jump off the right part of the board (helpfully indicated by a green x). Hold the button longer to make Dan jump father. Then, as he plummets towards the water, time your button presses to match each hoop he dives through. Master all that, and you'll get a perfect score.
Read ReviewProbably the prettiest of the three free AR games for the PS Vita is Fireworks. This game only uses three of the Ar cards cards 01, 02, and 03 but you can use one at a time, combine any two, or use all three. Each card creates a cartoony little house on your screen, and these houses shoot off fireworks. Your aim is to detonate the fireworks before they fly off the screen, and to create the best fireworks display that you can. It's sort of a rhythm game, but without a lot of rhythm. The music is so simple it doesn't really add a whole lot to the experience.
As with Cliff Diving, if you want the best score, you have to get your timing right. In Fireworks, each firework has an indicator on the screen that you tap to detonate it. Tapping early is better than not at all, but time it perfectly to get the best explosion and the highest score. Each of the three houses has a different difficulty level as well 01 is easy, 02 is medium, and 03 is hard. Combining two or all three houses increases the difficulty even more. If you get really good at Fireworks you may even be able to work your way up the online leaderboard.
Read ReviewThe final free AR game is Table Soccer (or Table Football if you're outside North America). In this game, you use all six of the AR cards to create your own customized stadium. Three cards create the field, two create the stands, and the last one is your scoreboard. Different combinations of cards in different positions will give you a different stadium, and you can even make your field bigger by placing the cards.
Use the touchscreen to more your players around and get them to kick the ball while you take on your opponents in a variety of matches and tournaments. The players are pretty tiny, but you have the option to zoom in to get a better view of each player, or zoom out to see the whole field. Table Soccer also includes multiplayer (or at least two player), allowing you to take on your friends via Ad Hoc mode.

Apple iOS 4 Features While I was scanning the iOS 4 features from the Apple official site, I couldn help but be amazed at how good Apple is in presenting its latest hardware and software products. Just the main page of the iOS 4 is enough to convince you that there are really exciting features in store for iPhone users once the iOS 4 goes out.
iOS 4 has 12 major features multi tasking, folders, better email management, ibooks, playlists, 5x digital zoom, tap to focus video, faces and places in photo, home screen wallpaper, gift apps, spellchecking and wireless keyboard support. Let drill down to the details and discuss what each of these features has to offer to iPhone users.
Multi tasking is a most wanted feature with almost all iPhone users since time immemorial. This was heightened when Google Android phones started coming out featuring, well multi tasking capability. This could have probably contributed to Apple decision to finally include this feature in iOS 4. So, pretty soon you be able to run third party apps and switch between them easily and instantly without draining too much of your iPhone battery juice.
new iOS 4 also offers the ability to use folders, second to multi tasking this is also another most wanted iPhone feature. In fact, the lack of this feature causes many iPhone users to jailbreak their units, because it opens up the ability to arrange apps into folders named by various categories. In iOS 4, this is now a reality.
The next new feature of the iOS 4 is better email management. And by that we mean having the ability to see messages from all your email accounts in one inbox. It will also let you organize messages by threads, open attachments in third party apps and more.
iPhone OS 4 will also support iBooks. If you an iPad owner, you must be using this app since day one. It Apple answer to the Amazon Kindle Store. It an ebook reader and an ebookstore rolled into one app.
The new iPhone OS will also let you create music playlists, get closer to your subjects by 5x when taking pictures, tap to focus when capturing video, view photos by faces and places, change the background wallpaper of your iPhone home screen, send apps as gifts to your friends and relatives who also own an iPhone, check spelling when writing emails or notes, and pair a keyboard to your iPhone wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Overall, these 12 new features of the iPhone OS 4 are more than enough to make it the most anticipated software update to be carried out by Apple for the iPhone.
Google Android 2.2 Froyo Meanwhile for the latest version of their OS, Android 2.2 or Froyo, Google are bringing in new features for the Android home screen, exchange support, camera gallery, portable hotspot, multiple keyboard languages and improved performance. Let's take a closer look at what each of these features bring to the Android smartphones which will support Android 2.2.
Android 2.2 adds a tips widget to the phone home screen. This tips widget is designed to help new Android phone users set up their phone's home screen with shortcuts and widgets as well as teaching them how to use the multiple home screens. In addition, dedicated shortcuts have been added to the phone, applications launcher, and browser.
The next feature of Froyo has something to do with Exchange support. Specifically, the new Android OS brings in improved security with the addition of numeric pin or alpha numeric password options for unlocking Android phones. Exchange administrators would be able to enforce password policy across devices as well as remotely reset the device to factory defaults when the need to secure data arises. In addition, setting up and synching your Exchange account to your Android device is now easier through the auto discovery feature. Global address lists look up is also now available in the phone's email app.
Android phones which will run on Android 2.2 will also have improved camera and gallery features. You can now peek into picture stacks using the zoom gesture. Controlling zoom, flash, white balance, geo tagging, focus and exposure can now be easily accessed through camera on screen buttons. You will also have an easier time setting video size/quality for MMS and YouTube. And finally, you can now shoot videos at night or in low light conditions, thanks to the LED Flash which will be enabled by Android 2.2.
Another exciting new feature of Android 2.2 is the enabling of portable Wi Fi hotspots which you can share with up to 8 devices. However, only selected Android phones are supported including the Nexus One.
If you're a multi lingual Android phone user, Android 2.2 will let you add multiple languages to the keyboard and switch between multiple Latin based input languages just by swiping across your phone's space bar.
Finally, and perhaps the most important new user feature to be brought in by Froyo is improved performance for Android phones. Using the V8 engine, Froyo enhances browser performance enabling faster loading of JavaScript heavy pages. Memory reclaim is also improved by up to 20x, resulting in faster app switching and smoother performance on devices with limited memory.
Which is the Better Smartphone OS?If you'll consider the quantity of new features that both the new mobile OS offerings are bringing to their supported devices, it would seem that iOS 4 is offering more than what Froyo is offering. But, we must also consider that most of the features that will be included in the iOS4 can already be done by most Android phones running Android 2.1. So, whether these OS updates will make their respective phones better is not a point of discussion.
If more is better, then the iOS 4 is the better OS once it becomes available. Another point to consider is that the new features of iOS 4 are about to make the iPhone, a much improved mobile phone device. Will Android 2.2 makes Android phones better? To an extent yes, but they won't make as much difference as the iOS 4 can make to the iPhone.
